Tommy Hilfiger Spring/Summer 2008 Collection
May 24th, 2008
Tommy Hilfiger is sort of an icon when it comes to fashion, men’s and women’s. His new Spring/Summer 2008 line is no exception. The basic blazers, the button up shirts, even the patterned trousers, are all vintage Tommy. I like it though, even the pink. And believe me there is a lot of pink in this new line; pink shirts, pink jackets, even pink pants. The seahorse print is strangely attractive, too. Overall, I think Tommy Hilfiger has done what he always does, produce a line that people will love, even pink haters. And, with a competitive price of course!

Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2008 Collection For Women
April 25th, 2008
NEW YORK, February 7, 2008 – "It feels iconic," said Tommy Hilfiger of showing at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. Then he flashed a grin at the mention of his recent pop-culture tome celebrating Americana—a subject fetishized in every collection he's ever designed. Once upon a time that meant hoodies and jeans. Now, in the third season since the brand was remade, it means real—as in self-consciously grown-up—clothes. For Fall, Hilfiger made the sixties- and seventies-era photographs of Sam Haskins his guiding light for their "pure, clean, and understated look." Those references were evident very literally on the runway. Princess coats, sheath dresses, and tunic tops over wide trousers recalled the boomer years a bit too readily and, red-white-and-blue palette notwithstanding, were bloodlessly executed. There were moments of sexiness: for example, a body-hugging knit dress and a mixed-pattern ensemble of a plaid bow blouse and polka-dot skirt that had a frisson of youthful energy. But on the whole, this seemed to be a collection skewed to a much older customer than this label used to aim for. It would be too bad if, in the process of luxe-ing up his line, Hilfiger took all the fun out of his fashion game.

Thomas Jacob Hilfiger (born March 24, 1951 in Elmira, New York) is a world-famous American fashion designer and creator of the eponymous "Tommy Hilfiger" and "Tommy" brands.
Hilfiger was born March 24, 1951 and raised in Elmira, New York. His original last name was "Lipshitz" but he changed it. Many claimed he changed his last name because he was ashamed of his Jewish anscestory, but he claims it was becuase, as a child, he was made fun of for having a certain word in his last name. Hilfiger grew up in an Irish Catholic family, the second of nine children. His parents originally intended for him to be an engineer. He attended Elmira Free Academy for high school. Rather than furthering his education, he started to work in retail at the age of 18. Hilfiger would trek down to New York City to get his hands on jeans and bell-bottom pants which he customized and resold at a local downtown Elmira, New York store, Brown's.
He later opened his own store, named The People's Place, around the block in downtown Elmira. Although the store was a hot spot for teens with frequent contests and live DJ appearances, there were often more people hanging out than shopping. Over the years, a number of stores closed in downtown Elmira as shopping traffic shifted to the new Arnot Mall in Horseheads, New York. It wasn't long before The People's Place became another casualty. After seven years, The People's Place went bankrupt, when Hilfiger was 25. The site of the original store has since been demolished to make room for First Arena, home of the Elmira Jackals Hockey team.
After turning to the design aspect of clothing by designing for the rest of his stores in upstate New York (a total of 10), Hilfiger moved to New York City with his now estranged wife, Susie. Although he was offered design assistant positions with designers Calvin Klein and Perry Ellis -- and was broke -- he turned them both down with greater plans in mind.
In 1998, Hilfiger gave singer Aaliyah her endorsement deal, in which he was honored to have her in his Summer 1998 fashion show in Jamaica.
In 2005, a CBS TV reality show called The Cut tracked the progress of sixteen contestants as they competed for a design job with Hilfiger in similar fashion to Donald Trump's The Apprentice. In the end Hilfiger chose Chris Cortez.
In May 2006, Hilfiger had a close encounter with Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose at the Plumm in New York City. Hilfiger reportedly took a couple of swings at Axl Rose for moving his girlfriend's drink, before being carried away kicking and screaming by his own security guards. Club owner Noel Ashman stated, "Axl was a gentleman and had the good sense not to retaliate as he would have done some serious damage to Hilfiger." Later that night, Rose dedicated the song "You're Crazy" to "My good friend Tommy Hilfiger."
In 2006, Tommy Hilfiger sold his company for $1.6 billion, or $16.80 a share, to Apax Partners, a private investment company.
He is dating Dee Ocleppo (former wife of Gianni Ocleppo, famous Italian Tennis player of the 80's). Hilfiger has four children. His daughter Ally was featured in the MTV reality show Rich Girls and he also has a son Rich Hil who is signed to Hip Hop super producer Swizz Beatz' label Full Surface.
Hilfiger has been criticised for manufacturing clothes in sweatshop conditions in the United States territory of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands. As a U.S. Commonwealth, clothes made there can be labeled "Made in the USA" but federal labor laws including the minimum wage do not apply. In March 2000, the company (along with other defendants) settled a class action suit brought by Saipan garment workers which had alleged mistreatment by over 20 large US clothing manufacturers.
On May 16, 2007 the New York Times reported that Hilfiger fired their union cleaning company and replaced the workers making $19 per hour with benefits with workers making $8 per hour. Hilfiger himself receives a minimum of $14.5 million per year from the company.
